Color Wheel Mandala Project

Students were taught color theory, monochromatic value scales, and art from other cultures with these acrylic paintings.

 

Watercolor/Ink Silhouette Project

Students were taught the important element of art, shape, and how it can be used as silhouette. They learned how to use liquid watercolors, along with many different techniques to use with them such as salt, alcohol, crayon resist, and water drops.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest

Students used prismacolors to create original rodeo art drawings.

 

 

Scratchboard Art

Students were taught the elements of art, line and texture, with this project in which they scratched away the black to reveal white underneath. They had to create value using hatching and cross-hatching.

Zentangle Animal Project

Students were taught the principle of art, pattern, and how to use it to create a unified zentangle animal in black sharpie.

Sugar Skull Project

Students learned about the traditional Mexican holiday, Dia De Los Muertos, and used their knowledge to create colorful prismacolor sugar skull drawings. They were taught how to use oil pastels, and used them to create a floral background.

Linoleum Block Printmaking Project

Students were taught how to carve a linoleum block, and how to transfer their drawing onto multiple prints using ink.

 

Slab Method Mugs

Students were shown how to roll slabs, slip and score to connect clay together, and apply glaze to their bisqueware. 

 

Self-Portraits

Art 1 students were taught human face proportions and applied their learned knowledge to their self-portrait project.

Mixed Media Masks

Students were instructed to draw a mask on a large piece of sulphite and divide it into 8 sections. Each section used a different medium/color theory/technique. Students used graphite, ink, colored pencil, oil pastel, watercolors, and acrylic paint.
